Young Thug Explains Wearing Women’s Clothing

Young Thug has maintained a consistent level of dialogue surrounding him, much of it centered on his penchant for women’s clothing. This has included dresses in the past. However, the rapper has explained this particular eccentricity in GQ magazine. Young Thug told the magazine, “Because women’s clothes are [slimmer] than men’s clothes. The jeans I got on right now, they’re women’s jeans. But they fit how they’re supposed to fit. Like a rock star.” He broke it down more. “The only thing I probably  have in men’s is like briefs. T-shirts. Ninety percent of my clothes are women’s,” he added.

How Your Favorite Sexy Clothing Items Are Tied To Women's Liberation

With the exception of lucky freelancers who can work in their pajamas, almost everyone gets dressed in the morning. This is such a basic ritual that it's easy to forget that there exists an immense — and sometimes very bizarre — political and sexual history of clothes. Women have donned quite an array of strange and highly uncomfortable items over the centuries, from whale bone corsets to stiff petticoats made of horse hair. When you actually think about it, however, it becomes clear that a lady's closet can be filled with a whole lot of liberating (albeit sometimes seedy) sexual politics, evident in everything from undergarments to swimwear.

Even though, statistically, more women than ever before are becoming actively involved in professional-level sports, many female players are still treated like second-class athletes. Since debuting in 1997, WNBA games remain difficult to find on mainstream networks like ESPN, despite a growing interest in the league. And for those female basketball players, that deficiency also trickles down to apparel with a lack of options in the women's performance gear category. Even Nike, the biggest U.S. apparel company with $30.6 million in annual revenue, had yet to create a basketball collection created for female athletes in mind — until this week, that is.

Popular man's closet now "90% womens' clothing"

“The clothes I got on right now, they’re women’s. Because women’s clothes are [slimmer] than men’s clothes The jeans I got on right now, they’re women’s jeans. But they fit how they’re supposed to fit. Like a rockstar. The only thing I probably have in men’s is like, briefs. T-shirts. 90% percent of my clothes are women’s.” My best denim is, technically, for women, buttoning left. This may be more or less imperceptible, given the cut, but I think Young Thug is really onto something here. Like him, I have found that I look much better with the trim-yet-sensual lines of "womens" garments that are not otherwise particularly feminine in cut or style.
